James joined Total Fire Group in June 2019 as a Fire Safety Consultant. He comes from a background of developing fire safety strategies for compliance with standard guidance and engineered solutions for non-standard designs, including means of escape, smoke and fire spread calculations and firefighting access provisions.
In 2004, James began his career in fire safety as a Fire Officer at BAE Systems based at Samlesbury Aerodrome, Lancashire. Starting with Emergency response (Fire and Ambulance), he moved into Fire Safety and Emergency and disaster planning with responsibility for ensuring the company was fully compliant with fire legislation and completing fire risk assessments for all types of building associated with a military aerodrome including offices, storage, chemical facilities, munitions and aircraft hangars.
In 2009, he joined Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service as a Fire Safety Inspector based at Accrington, Lancaster and Preston where he completed all fire safety modules at the Fire Service College and attained a Level Four Diploma in Fire Safety. During his time at LFRS James was given several specialist points of reference including Building Regulations, Hospitals, Sports Grounds and Universities with the aim of ensuring measures are in place to protect people from fire in complex premises and environments. His role also included preparing and presenting evidence in Court and other formal proceedings in relation to fire safety matters on multiple occasions.
In May 20017 James was invited by the Lancashire Institute of Fire Engineers to join the committee and has been proactive in arranging CPD events. He has recently undergone a site witness audit by NSI for the BAFE SP 205 Scheme and has been passed as a BAFE “Validator”, where he will be able to audit and validate other assessors assessments before going to the client.
